April 2025: The Sequel's First Chapter

Any bibliophile will tell you that the opening chapter of a sequel is an important yet complex space to navigate. And this is no less true for a company merger.

Imagine for instance, you’ve just finished reading the bestselling series’ opener and were utterly captivated, as if you could have continued reading ad infinitum. So, when you sit down to read the sequel’s opening chapter, there is a sense of excitement. But there is also often a tinge of trepidation.

Where will the author take me? What will they make of their beloved characters? Will the sequel be as equally masterful as the previous book?

But any lover of books will also know that such questions cannot be answered in the opening pages. One does not judge the book by its languid first chapter but instead presses forward because of the trust they have in the author and their previous work.

What I am suggesting by this (imperfect) metaphor is that AV Events is now in that opening chapter.

We have just completed our first month as part of the TES group and you, our client, may be feeling a mixture of things. That is completely understandable, especially if we work with you on bigger shows.

But what I will ask of you is that you trust in what you have known before. AV Events has always strived to be a client-centric company, meaning that we always seek to treat every client with the utmost importance and care.

Trust and love form the heartbeat of our company.

Combine this with our continual desire to deliver the best we possibly can, and the results are quite special—as we hope you know.

Our promise is that this will continue to be one of our core values. After all, it is shared by TES and has been a significant factor in their rapid success.

So please, keep reading. Don’t put the book down, as our saga is far from over.

How This Will Help You

Let me take you for a moment into our imagination and show you some of the benefits we see coming up on the horizon.

Economic profitability, for one, is an immediate advantage that we foresee in the future.

Historically, being based in Auckland has never been a problem for doing events across the nation. But it has, admittedly, been a disadvantage for those times when our work takes us across the Cook Straight.

Inter-island travel requires added time and travel cost, as well as trust in ferry services that are periodically unreliable.

Now, that our operation includes a second full-service AV base in the South Island, it has expanded the gear we have access to, considerably lessening these factors.

As an illustration, to do an event in Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre—a popular event destination in recent years—previously meant bringing the gear down from Auckland. This required two days of travel, as well as a ferry crossing, and a few other costs.

Now?

Te Pae is 15 minutes away.

And TES is one of its main AV suppliers.

A second major advantage of having two branches working in concert is that is has diversified the gear we have access to. Because the Christchurch AV market has a different feel than Auckland, there are some pieces of equipment that have not been economically viable for us to purchase, but have been for TES, and vice versa.

Now as one single group, those limitations have been lifted.

This means that we can start to incorporate new gear and thus greater degrees of creativity and efficiency in our shows. That is, we can begin to push the boat out further.

Not only does this increase our ability to approach and operate shows with greater clarity, but it ultimately results in more striking, memorable events. The kinds of moments that stick in peoples’ minds.

Now, there will continue to be times where more specialised equipment will cross the Straight for particular shows.

But overall, the problem of geographical proximity has been annulled, resulting in a lower cost, greater reliability, and a greater capacity for creative potential.

Put plainly: we think this will be as exciting for you as it is for us.
